If you or a loved one has undergone or will undergo an eye procedure/surgery, there are certain precautions involved in post-operative care to ensure and quick recovery. We have also compiled a general but important list of do’s and don’ts to ensure your or a loved one’s wellbeing. We have put together some very handy tips to be followed an eye surgery for post-operative care:
Use an eye shield for protection when sleeping at night. Do wash them daily with water and soap/disinfectant before use. These eye shields are available freely with pharmacies.
Clean the operated eye and its region as per instructions given by the doctor in the hospital/clinic. The rest of the face can be cleaned using a clean & wet cloth. Avoid splashing water drops into the operated eye and surrounding region.
Shaving of the face for men is permitted (as an option). However, do avoid splashing water as mentioned in the above point. Wipe yourself using a wet cloth or wet wipe (available in pharmacies and general stores).
Bathing can be resumed neck downwards right after surgery. No head bath for 3-4 weeks after surgery or as per surgeon instructions.
Avoid facial cosmetics such as eyeliner, kohl, and mascara, and so on for at least a month or so.
You can resume light walking after surgery, however, strenuous activities such as gymming, running, gardening, or other sports should be put off for 4-6 weeks post-surgery
Please do not drive any vehicle till you get the green signal from the concerned surgeon. It’s good to be safe than sorry.
Check with your doctor about resuming work full time, whether you work from home or at a designated worksite.
If you have any worsening of the symptoms and you notice increasing redness, pain, or decreased vision please report it right away to the hospital/clinic and surgeon concerned.
